MiddleBrook Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (MiddleBrook), formerly Advancis Pharmaceutical Corporation, is a pharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing anti-infective drug products for the treatment of
disease. The Company has developed a once-a-day pulsatile delivery technology called PULSYS. PULSYS is designed to sequentially release specific portions of the drug dose, yielding a pulsatile pattern of antibiotic release. This technology is protected by a patent estate, with 26 patents issued in the United States and two foreign-issued patents, with the patent lives extending to 2020 and beyond. MiddleBrook owns all rights to its PULSYS technology, and accordingly, there are no royalties due to any third party. On June 27, 2007, the Company changed its name from Advancis Pharmaceutical Corporation. In November 2007, the Company entered into a transaction with Deerfield Management, in which it sold its Keflex brand rights.
